Ebony and African Blackwood

African Blackwood (Dalbergia melanoxylon) is a black colored wood used for turning. It features a smooth finish, which is ideal for knife handles. Keep in mind that some pieces may include hues of dark purple or brown. Use this evenly textured wood for your next knife making project. Choose from blocks or scales.

Ebony (Diospyros ebenum) is a dense hardwood that is black in color with occasional streaks of brown and gray. The hardness of this wood offers you the flexibility to carve details as you make specialty items such as knife handles. Ebony is easy to polish and offers a smooth finish. We have ebony in blocks or scales for your next knife making project.

  • Scales measure: 3/8" x 1-1/2" x 5" long and are sold in sets of 2.
  • Blocks measure: 1" x 1-1/2" x 5" long

*** Please note - much of the Ebony we are currently receiving has silver / gray streaks of lighter color - look at all the photos for examples.
